1933 R319 Goudey Uncut Sheet with Seven Hall of Famers

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $9,988

Complete 24-card production sheet of 1933 Goudey "Big League" Chewing Gum cards (#100-105, 115-120, and 130-141). This prime sheet includes seven Hall of Famers: #102 Travis Jackson, 103 Earle Combs, 117 Rabbit Maranville, 119 Rogers Hornsby, 133 Fred Lindstrom, 134 Sam Rice, and 138 Herb Pennock. The 1933 Goudey set is the first of all modern gum-card issues and the most important of all Goudey issues. Uncut sheets of Goudey cards are not only extremely rare, but are also among the most popular and sought-after of all baseball-card sheets. The improbability of their existence, their incredible rarity, and their extraordinary display value are all factors which contribute to the great desirability of Goudey sheets. Over the years, there have only been a few finds of Goudey sheets, all of which can be traced directly to the printer or Goudey. In total, fewer than 100 Goudey baseball sheets exist, including all Goudey issues. The offered sheet originates from the files of Goudey. This is one of the few surviving sheets that were saved as samples by Goudey in its archives in a large album, carefully mounted along one edge with clear tape and with a few short streaks of water-soluble glue. The 3/8-inch strip of tape, which was along the extreme left border side, and the glue remnants have been professionally removed. The tape and glue removal is virtually undetectable, and would not be noticed unless one was examining the sheet very closely, specifically seeking to determine where the tape and glue once were. There has been some very minor professional color retouching along the extreme edge where the strip of tape has been removed. The sheet is spectacularly bright and clean, with incredibly bold and vibrant colors, and a simply stunning overall Excellent to Mint appearance. There is some rounding to the corners, with slightly more wear in the upper right corner, but this has no impact on the extremely impressive display value of the sheet. The sheet is perfectly flat, with no creases whatsoever. The reverse of the sheet is fully printed, and is also perfectly bright and clean. For ideal preservation, and at considerable expense, this sheet has been fitted with a custom-made sealed archival mylar protective sleeve (exactly as the world's most valuable documents such as the original Declaration of Independence are preserved). It is also very professionally and expensively double-side matted (so both the front and back can be viewed) for ideal storage and handling as is or for framing. Dimensions of 19 x 16 inches. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $9,988
