1932 W574 Near-Complete Set (19 of 29)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $705
Near-complete set of 1932 W574 cards includes 19 different of the 29 cards in the set, highlighted by six Hall of Famers. It is unknown exactly how this substantial blank-backed set was issued (which is why it is catalogued as a "W" issue). However, the set was obviously issued by some company, and based on the size, year of issue, and quality card stock, it has always been our speculation that this set was actually a candy issue (which if verifiable, should have always been catalogued as an "E" or candy issue). Missing just ten common cards for completion (#1, 2, 7, 9, 11, 15, 19, 24, 27, and 29). Numbers referenced are provided by the Standard Catalog checklist. Seventeen (of the nineteen) cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA (5) or SGC (12). The near-set consists of the following: Appling (HOF, SGC VG 40), Averill (HOF, SGC VG/EX 50), Blaeholder (PSA VG-EX 4), Burns (SGC GOOD 30), Cissell (PSA VG 3), Dykes (SGC VG 40), Faber (HOF, SGC VG 40), Fonseca (Vg), Foxx (HOF, SGC GOOD 30), Grove (HOF, SGC FAIR 20), Grube (SGC Authentic), Hadley (SGC VG 40), Killefer (Gd), Kress (PSA GOOD 2), Marberry (SGC VG 40), Peckinpaugh (PSA GOOD 2), Reynolds (SGC GOOD 30), Simmons (HOF, SGC FAIR 20), and Walker (PSA VG 3). This is a very attractive near-set of these mysterious and distinctive early 1930s cards. Total: 19 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $705
