1929-1930 Four-On-One Exhibits Complete Set (32)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880

Complete set of thirty-two cards from the classic 1929-1930 Four-On-One Exhibits series. Sixteen cards grade Ex (with a couple Vg-Ex), and sixteen cards are in technically slightly lesser grades due to small faults; these are all still great-looking cards. At a glance this set looks Excellent across the board! In 1929 the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago changed the design of its cards and began issuing Four-On-One Exhibits featuring four different players per card, all from the same team. This unique design lasted for nine years, until 1938. The key card from the set features portraits of Yankee standouts Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Leo Durocher (rookie), and Mark Koenig (Ex; slightly undersized, suggesting a possible trim, though we think this is as-issued). This is an outstanding fresh, clean, and crisp set across the board, with all postcard backs unused (pencil notations on reverse of one card, an ink stamp on the reverse of one other). In addition to its great significance as the Exhibit Supply Company's first Four-On-One set, Exhibits in general are extremely substantial, far rarer than many other cards from the era, and represent an extraordinary collecting value for quality cards from the late 1920s. Total: 32 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,880
