1922 E120 American Caramel - Series of 240 SGC-Graded Collection (56)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,288

Outstanding high-grade collection of fifty-six different (of the 240 in the set) 1922 E120 American Caramel (Series 240) cards, highlighted by six Hall of Famers, each graded and encapsulated by SGC. Many of these cards are the highest (31 cards) or second-highest (17 cards) graded examples in the SGC Population Report. The E120 American Caramel Company set issued in 1922 is universally recognized as the most classic set from the 1920s. The E120 set’s 240 cards make it the only comprehensive set of the era and its striking design make it one of the most attractive baseball-card sets of any era. The set features fifteen members from each of the sixteen Major League teams. All the players are pictured in full-length poses. The National Leaguers are printed in a green tone; the American Leaguers in a sepia tone. This substantial collection is remarkably clean and extremely attractive. The SGC grades are as follows: One NM/MT 88: Perkins. One NM+ 86: Hasty. Six NM 84: Bassler, Falk, Galloway, McClellan, Phillips, and Shawkey. Six EX/NM 80: Devormer, Gerber, Mogridge, Nunamaker, Sheely, and Tobin. Two EX+ 70: Marquard (HOF) and Shinners. Twenty-four EX 60: Adams, Barnes, Blue, Cole, Collins, Cooper, Coveleski (HOF), Cunningham, Cutshaw, Fillingim, Flack, Glazner, Goslin (HOF), Grimes (HOF), Hubbell, Jones, Mails, Miller, Morrison, Pennock (HOF), Powell, Quinn, Ruel, and Schmandt. Ten VG/EX 50: Davis, Doak, Fournier, Gowdy, Hamilton, Luque, Mitchell, O'Neill, Sewell (HOF), and Shocker. Five VG 40: Aldridge, King, Neale, Schmidt, and Smith. One FAIR 20: Mostil. E120s are almost never found in such extreme high grade. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a large and extremely high quality collection of fifty-six different cards (23% of the set) of this all-time classic 1920s baseball-card issue. Total: 56 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
