1932-1937 Zeenut Card Collection Including Joe DiMaggio Rookie Card (275 cards)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $9,400

Presented is an impressive Zeenut card collection featuring PCL players, comprised of 275 cards (274 different) spanning the years 1932 to 1937, representing four different sets. The highlight of the collection is the Joe DiMaggio rookie card. The 1934 Zeenut DiMaggio is one of the most extraordinary and interesting of all baseball cards. It is Joe DiMaggio's true rookie card, featuring him with the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League in the earliest days of his professional baseball career. In addition to the 1934 Joe DiMaggio rookie card (name misspelled "DeMaggio" as on all Zeenuts), this collection also features many other significant PCL stars, including many players that earlier or later played in the major leagues. Zeenuts were first issued in 1911 and sets continued to be issued into the late 1930s. This is a very substantial collection dating from the later years of the Zeenut run. Condition: 15% of the cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), and 85% range from Pr to Vg. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. This is a fascinating assemblage and a collection unto itself! Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1932-1937 Zeenut collection is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. 1) 1932 Zeenut (92 of 120 cards): Abbott, Almada, Anton, Babich, Backer, Baker, Ballou, Bassler, Berger, Blackerby, Bordagaray, Brannon, Brubaker, Callaghan, Camilli, Carlyle, Caveney, Collard, Cook, Coscarart, Cox, Cronin, Daglia, Davis, Dean, Demaree, Devine, DeViveiros, Dittmar, Donovan, Ellsworth, Fitzpatrick, Frazier, Freitas, Garibaldi, Gaston, Gazella, Gillick, Hafey, Haney, Hannah, Henderson, Hofman, Holland, House, Hufft, Jacobs, Johnson (Portland), Johnson (Seattle), Joiner, Kallio, Kampouris, Kelly, Koehler, Lee, Martin (San Francisco), Miljus, Monroe, Mosolf, Muller, Oana (the key card of the set, tape on back, otherwise Vg), Page, Penebsky, Pillette, Read, Salvo, Sankey, Sheehan, Shellenback, Sherlock (Hollywood), Sherlock (Missions), Shores, Simas, Statz, Steinbacker, Sulik, Summa, Thomas, Uhalt, Vinci, Vitt, Walsh (Oakland), Walters, Ward, Welsh, Wera, Williams, Willoughby, Wirts, Wise, Woodall, and Yde. 2) 1933 Zeenut (Sepia) complete set (48 cards): 20% range from Vg-Ex to Ex, 80% range from Pr to Vg. 3) 1933-1936 Zeenut (105 of 159 plus 14 variations and one duplicate for a total of 120 cards): Almada (small), Anton (large), Babich (large), Babich (small), Ballou (black stockings), Ballou (large), Ballou (small), C.
