1937-1938 Zeenut Collection with Coupons Including D. DiMaggio and Rosenberg (38)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,225

Collection of thirty-eight rare 1937-1938 Zeenut PCL cards, highlighted by Dom DiMaggio's rookie card and Jewish ballplayer Rosenberg, each with the original coupon attached to the bottom. This is an outstanding high-grade collection that an old-time collector assembled over many years. Zeenuts are scarce to begin with, but rarely survive with coupons intact. The coupons were intended to be cut off by youngsters and redeemed for prizes. This is a very clean, crisp high-grade collection of Zeenut's final baseball-card issue with tabs intact. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC: D. DiMaggio rookie card (EX+ 70; it is interesting to note his name is misspelled as “DeMaggio”), Garibaldi (EX+ 70), and Rosenberg (Missions; SGC EX/NM 80). The balance of the collection is comprised of the following: Annunzio (Vg/Vg-Ex), Ballou (Ex-Mt), W. Beck (Ex), Boss (Ex), Daglia (Ex-Mt), Frankovich (Ex-Mt), Freitas (Vg), Gill (Ex), Graves (Ex/Ex-Mt), Guay (Ex-Mt), Hawkins (Vg/Vg-Ex), Herrmann (Ex), Holder (Ex/Ex-Mt), Koenig (Vg/Vg-Ex), Lamanski (Ex-Mt), Marble (Ex), Mills (Vg-Ex/Ex), Mort (Missions; Vg), Nitcholas (Ex-Mt), Osborne (Ex), Outen (Vg/Vg-Ex), C. Outen (Missions; Ex-Mt), Powell (Ex), Sheehan (San Francisco; Vg/Vg-Ex), Shores (Ex), Slade (Missions; Ex), Sprinz (Missions; Ex), Statz (Ex-Mt), Stutz (Vg), Thomson (Ex), Tost (Missions; Gd-Vg), Vitter (San Francisco; Ex), West (Vg-Ex), Woodall (Vg), and Wright (Ex). All of the cards have a much stronger appearance than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. This is a very substantial collection of extremely desirable and rarely seen cards with tabs from the 1937-1938 Zeenut series. Total: 38 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $8,225
