1918 Zeenut PCL Partial Set (60/104) Including Crawford and Mensor

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $12,925

Collection of 60 different (of the 104) 1918 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by Hall of Famer Sam Crawford and Ed Mensor. The 1918 Zeenut set is comprised of players from six different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Vernon), and is considered by many to be among the rarest of all Zeenut series . They are also very distinctive in design with red borders. 30% of the cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (with a few Vg), and 70% range from Pr to Gd-Vg. This is a particularly impressive group, far better than normally found, with many cards in very high grade for this condition-sensitive issue. This is an exciting group for Zeenut collectors, and by far the largest group of 1918 Zeenuts we have ever offered. Keys: Sam Crawford (Pr, heavily worn) and Mensor (Vg/Vg-Ex). The collection consists of the following: Arlett, Baum, Boles, Brooks, Brown, Caldera, Chappell, Codington, Conwright, Cox, Crandall (Salt Lake), Crawford (HOF), Croll, Downs, Dubuc, Elliot, Ellis, Fisher, Fournier, Goldie, Hawkes, Hollander, Howard, Hummel, Hunter, Johnson, G. Johnson, Kantlehner, Koerner, Kremer, Lapan, Leifer, Leverenz, Llewlyn, Martin, McCabe, Mensor, Middleton, Miller (Oakland), Miller (Salt Lake), Mitze, Morton, Murray, Orr, Pertica, Phillips, Pick, Pinelli, Prentice, Quinlan, Ritchie, Rogers, Ryan, Sand, Shader, Siglin, Smale, Smith (SF), West, and Williams. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1918 Zeenut partial set is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $12,925
