1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet "Larry" Lajoie

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $4,113

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Very attractive example of Hall of Famer Napoleon Lajoie from the M110 Sporting Life cabinet-card set issued in 1911. This is one of six M110s that were among the highlights of a small but remarkable childhood collection of our consignor’s grandfather that included a complete set of six M110s and eight M116s. These cards have been carefully stored by the family since 1911! All are new to the organized collecting world and are presented in a total of eight lots in this auction. This is one of Lajoie's rarest and most attractive cards, and one of the key Hall of Famers in the set. M110s are similar in design to, but far rarer than, the contemporary T3 Turkey Red cabinets. These cards have always been highly respected for their extreme rarity as well as their impressive design and distinctive style. Technically graded GOOD by SGC (due to a hint of foxing in the lower left and surface wear on the reverse from removal from a photo-album page designed with strips of very light adhesive), but clearly with a stronger appearance. This card is bright and crisp, with light, even corner wear, and a tiny surface crease in the lower right corner. The back of the card features a boldly printed advertisement for Sporting Life . This is a very striking and conservatively graded example of one of Lajoie’s rarest and most impressive cards. Dimensions: 5-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
