1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders Collection Including Ty Cobb (49)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115
This collection of forty-nine 1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders includes a near-set of forty-six different cards (out of 50 cards in the set) and three duplicates. Missing only four commons for completion. Highlighted by Cobb, Mathewson, Johnson, and many other Hall of Famers. These cards were part of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. We have selected three T201 Mecca Double Folders to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Keys: Baker/Collins (Gd), Bender/Oldring (Vg-Ex), Bergen/Wheat (Pr), Bresnahan/Huggins (Vg), Bridwell/Mathewson (SGC EX 60), Brown/Hofman (Fr), Byrne/Clarke (Vg-Ex), Chance/Evers (Pr, bottom cut off), Chase/Sweeney (Vg), Cicotte/Thoney (Gd-Vg), Cobb/Crawford (SGC GOOD 30; several light creases, otherwise Ex), Dougherty/Lord (Vg), Falkenberg/Lajoie (Pr), Gardner/Speaker (Fr), Jennings/Summers (Fr), Johnson/Street (SGC VG 40), Lake/Wallace (Pr), McCarty/McGinnity (Ex), and Payne/Walsh (Gd). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: six cards grade Ex or better, twelve cards grade Vg to Vg-Ex, and twelve cards range from Pr to Gd (mostly Fr-Gd). These cards are naturally prone to wear and rarely found in extremely high grade. As is usually the case with T201s, cards have been substantially downgraded due to mostly very minor creases and corner wear natural to the issue, and many have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate grades. T201s are very attractive, substantial, and represent one of the best values of all 1910 era baseball tobacco issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the three SGC-graded cards (not including the forty-six ungraded cards) is $1,490. Total: 49 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115
