1911 T205 Gold Border Collection (50)

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,050

Collection of forty-five different (plus five duplicates, for a total of fifty cards) 1911 T205 Gold Borders, ranging in condition from Vg to Nr/Mt (with a few lesser), highlighted by five Hall of Famers, three minor leaguers, and several significant rarities. These cards were part of a particularly exciting newly discovered original-owner collection that includes forty-nine T204 Ramlys, four T208 Firesides, and other 1910-era cards, all of which are presented in several lots in this auction. We have selected eighteen T205 Gold Borders to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Highlights: Chase/one ear (SGC VG/EX 50), Clarke (HOF, Vg), J. Collins (HOF, Vg), Dahlen (Gd-Vg), Dunn/minor leaguer (Gd), Frick/minor leaguer (Gd-Vg), Harmon/left ear (Gd-Vg), Karger (Pr-Fr), Kleinow (Vg), Mathewson (HOF, SGC VG 40), McGraw (HOF, Fr-Gd), two Raymond (Vg-Ex and Pr), Shean/Cubs (pencil mark on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), Tinker (HOF, SGC EX 60), Turner (Pr-Fr), Wagner (SGC EX 60), Wallace/cap (HOF, Vg), Wilhelm/"suffered" (SGC EX 60), and Wiltse/one ear (Gd-Vg). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: One SGC NM 84: Krause. Two SGC EX/NM 80: Byrne and Phillippe. Four SGC EX+ 70: Beck, Hauser, Herzog, and Konetchy. Six EX 60: two Dooin, Doyle, Hartsel, McIntire, and Reulbach. Ungraded: Ten cards range from Vg to Vg-Ex, and seven are lesser (mostly Fr). The forty-five different T205 Gold Borders in the collection represent 22% of the set, and could serve as a solid foundation for the building of a very attractive medium-grade complete set of this classic tobacco-card issue. The equivalent SMR value for just the eighteen SGC-graded cards (not including the thirty-two ungraded cards) is $4,765. Total 50 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $7,050
