1911 D359 Williams Baking Connie Mack - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $9,988

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Highest graded by PSA! The only other examples graded by PSA are two VG-EX 4s. This stunning ultra high-grade example of key Hall of Famer Connie Mack from the extremely rare D359 Williams Baking series features a classic portrait image with the "1910 World's Champions" overprint. D359s are among the rarest of all 1910-era issues. Produced to commemorate the Athletics’ 1910 Championship season, the set exclusively features Athletics, including manager Connie Mack. The very same images were used for similar sets issued by Rochester Baking and T208 Cullivan's Fireside Tobacco. The card is bright and clean, with a deep green background and crisp perfect image. The corners are razor sharp and the centering is almost perfect. The reverse is virtually flawless, with the advertising printed crisply and boldly in black. A tiny surface wrinkle above the text on the reverse is solely responsible for this card being downgraded from a PSA NM 7 or better. This card was purchased by our consignor approximately twenty-five years from legendary collector/dealer/auctioneer Lew Lipset (author of The Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards ) who at the time (long before third-party grading companies, when card grading standards were very different) graded this card Mint. We can't say we blame him! Modern grading standards aside, even today, we would be tempted to call this card MINT. It's that sharp! This is a simply unbelievable and spectacular high-grade example (literally the finest in the universe!) of one of the rarest of all Connie Mack cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $9,988
