1911 T208 Cullivan's Fireside Rube Oldring
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,410
Graded POOR 10 by SGC. T208 Cullivan's Fireside tobacco card featuring outfielder Rube Oldring of the Philadelphia Athletics. This is one of three T208s that were among the highlights of a small but remarkable original-owner collection that consisted of four E90-1s (including Joe Jackson), fourteen T206s, sixteen T205s, seven T201s, eleven E93s, six E96s, six E92 Dockmans, and nineteen E75 boxers, all new to the organized collecting world and presented in a total of six lots in this auction. The card has several heavy creases and rounded corners, but is still a very pleasing example. This is an attractive T208 sample which appears much better than suggested by its technically accurate assigned grade. The advertising for Fireside tobacco on the reverse is very clean and boldly printed. This is an exceptional low-grade example from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest and most highly prized issues. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,410
