1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb SGC-Graded Collection (4)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,288

Complete set of all four Ty Cobb poses from the classic T206 White Border series, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). These cards were part of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction) that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. 1) Ty Cobb Green background portrait (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG 40. The Green Background pose has long been considered the rarest of the four poses of Cobb in the T206 set. Solid Vg card with a light crease in the upper right. Centered slightly to the left (approx. 40/60 L/R), evenly rounded corners, and a light stain on the right edge of the reverse. 2) Ty Cobb Red background portrait (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG/EX 50. Bright and crisp, with a striking red background, and no creases. 3) Ty Cobb Bat-off-shoulder pose (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG 40. Well centered just a hint to the left, with vibrant colors. This is a gorgeous card, extremely clean both front and back, with even corner wear, and a single crease along the bottom. 4) Ty Cobb Bat-on-shoulder pose (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG 40. Nicely centered with brilliant colors, flawless registration, slightly rounded corners, and a crease on the left border. These are very attractive mid-grade examples with great eye-appeal. For the Cobb collector not interested in paying a king's ransom for cards in higher grade, but still wants very attractive, extremely desirable original 1910-era cards of Cobb, or for the T206 set builder seeking to fill in these four big slots, this collection presents an exceptional opportunity. Four very attractive cards (one of each pose) of the "Georgia Peach" from the most popular set of the era. These classics are rarely offered as a set. The equivalent SMR value for the four cards is $4,325. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
