1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Bat On Shoulder- Sovereign back

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,763

Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA. A very attractive example of this classic tobacco card of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, with the Sovereign Cigarettes back. Sovereign is a scarce back, certainly not in the same league as Drum or Uzit, but very unusual and seen far less often than the standard Piedmont or Sweet Caporal advertising backs. The T206 Ty Cobb bat-on-shoulder pose is one of the most classic prewar tobacco cards. Bright and crisp, with bold colors, even wear to the corners, no creases, and centered 30/70 top to bottom. The Sovereign reverse is perfectly clean with bold green print and with no tobacco stains. This is a very attractive example of the legendary Ty Cobb from the most popular set of the era. The SMR value for a PSA VG-EX 4 Cobb bat-on-shoulder (without reference to the Sovereign back) is $1,350. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200+. SOLD FOR $1,763
