Lot # 306 (of 1743)   < Previous Lot | Next Lot >

1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (96) Including Cy Young and Rare Elberfeld

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,410

Collection of ninety-six (85 different) low-grade T206 White Border tobacco cards in Poor condition (includes a few with the borders trimmed off), highlighted by nine Hall of Famers including Cy Young, one future "Black Sox" member, and the rare Elberfeld, Washington - portrait. These cards were part of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction) that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs (except two Polar Bear and one Tolstoi). Highlights: Brown (Cubs), Brown (port.), Chance (yellow), Cicotte ("Black Sox"), two Doyle (NY, hands above head), Elberfeld, Washington (portrait.), Evers (portrait), Huggins (hands at mouth), Jennings (one hand), Joss (hands at chest), Waddell (throwing), and Young (glove shows). T206s perhaps more so than any other vintage issue are extremely popular in all grades. While this collection is not in the best of condition, the group represents an exciting, relatively affordable opportunity for a collector on a budget to acquire a large selection of authentic "good old cards" from the most popular set of the 1910 era. Total: 96 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,410
