1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Red Background - El Principe De Gales

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Outstanding high-grade example of what is universally recognized as one of Cobb's most striking cards. The Red Background pose has long been considered one of the great classics in the T206 set. This is a stunning card! It is also all the more of great note due to having the extremely scarce and unusual El Principe De Gales advertising reverse. This would be a gem of a card with any back, but El Principe De Gales is particularly scarce and unusual. The offered example has a particularly striking portrait, brilliant colors with a strong red background. It is exceptionally clean, both front and back, centered slightly towards the bottom left, with four square corners displaying just a hint of wear (predominately the upper left corner), and large, full borders. The back is beautifully centered and flawlessly clean with bold red print. This is a very sharp-looking (and very conservatively graded) high-grade example of one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era. Without reference to the scarce El Principe De Gales advertising back, SMR value is $1,950. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231
