1909-1911 T206 Hall of Fame SGC VG 40 Collection (13)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,406

Collection of thirteen different T206 Hall of Famers, highlighted by Walter Johnson, three Christy Mathewsons, and Cy Young. Each card has been graded and encapsulated VG 40 by SGC (all submitted by REA). All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs unless otherwise noted: 1) Chief Bender - trees; 2) Johnny Evers - Cubs; 3) Hughie Jennings - one hand; 4) Walter Johnson - port.; 5) Nap Lajoie - bat; 6) Christy Mathewson - dark cap (Sovereign back); 7) Christy Mathewson - port.; 8) Christy Mathewson - white cap; 9) John McGraw - no cap; 10) Joe Tinker - hands on knees; 11) Ed Walsh; 12) Vic Willis - throwing (Tolstoi back); 13) Cy Young - port. This is a very pleasing mid-grade collection of Hall of Famers with most cards having much better eye-appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. Great-looking group of relatively affordable Hall of Famers from the era's most popular set. This lot includes a particularly high concentration of top-tier Hall of Famers. T206 cards in mid-grade represent one of the great values in vintage-card collecting. The fact that these classic cards of Hall of Famers are available to collectors without literally spending a fortune is remarkable. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $3,415. Total: 13 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,406
