1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (103)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,525

Collection of 103 assorted (91 different) T206 White Border tobacco cards, highlighted by twelve Hall of Famers including Lajoie and Speaker. This is an original "childhood" collection, assembled in 1911 and saved in the family of the original owner. These T206s are from the very same collection as the T206 Plank (Piedmont back) which is offered separately in this auction. 55% range from Gd to Vg, 25% lesser (mostly Fr), and 20% slightly trimmed or miscut. Highlights: Baker (Vg-Ex), Chase/trophy (slight trim), Chase/blue (Pr), Chase/pink (Fr), Clarke/bat (Vg), Clarke/port. (Gd), Collins/Phila. (Vg), Flick (Vg), Joss/port. (Gd), Lajoie/port. (Vg), Speaker (Vg), Waddell/port. (Vg), Wallace (Vg), and two Willis/port. (both Vg). This is a very appealing collection of cards saved and consigned by the family of the original owner, direct from "the olden days," a little rough but still very collectable, and ideal for the collector who does not want to spend a fortune, buts wants real, original 1910-era tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and the joy of collecting. We especially enjoy offering mixed-grade groups like these because they make the collecting of the most classic baseball-card issues possible and more accessible to a wider audience. Backs are all Sweet Caporal and Piedmont. Total: 103 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,525
