1909-1911 T206 White Border Hall of Fame and Key Card Collection (43) Including two Cobbs, two Mathewsons

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,463

Collection of forty-three T206 cards comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers and key cards, highlighted by two Ty Cobbs, two Christy Mathewsons, and Walter Johnson. This is an original-owner collection that have remained in the family for decades. The larger part of the collection was sold to a national card dealer about a year ago, but the family pulled out all the Hall of Famers and some of the key cards to sell at a later date. That day has come! This is a spectacular group of T206 highlights! Please note that many of the lower-graded cards have been awarded modest grades solely due to an ink stamp date on the reverse, and are otherwise in much higher grade (in many cases Excellent condition). Twelve cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA): Baker (EX+ 70), Bender - no trees (EX 60, Old Mill back), Bender - port. (VG 40), Brown - Chicago (EX 60), Brown - Cubs (Fr), Brown - port. (Fr), Chance - batting (Fr), Chance - red (Fr), Chance - yellow (Fr), Chase - blue (trimmed along bottom), Cobb - red (VG 40, perfectly centered with a striking red background and a Polar Bear back), Cobb - bat off (GOOD 30, Polar Bear back), Collins - Minn. (Gd-Vg, Polar Bear back), Dahlen - Bklyn (Fr), Doyle - NY, hands above head (Fr), Evers - port. (Fr), Evers - Chicago (Fr), Evers - Cubs (Fr), Gandil - "Black Sox" (Fr-Gd), Griffith - bat (Authentic, trim or miscut along right edge, Old Mill back, EX appearance), Griffith - port. (EX+ 70), Huggins - port. (Ex), Johnson - hands at chest (GOOD 30, Polar Bear back), Kelley (Vg), Lundgren - Chicago (Fr), Marquard - at side (Fr), Marquard - pitching (Fr), Mathewson - port. (FAIR 20 due to date ink stamp on back, otherwise EX), Mathewson - white cap (POOR 10 due to date ink stamp on back, otherwise VG/VG-EX), McGraw - finger (Fr), McGraw - glove (Vg-Ex), McGraw - cap (Fr), Miller - Southern Leaguer (Vg), Speaker (FAIR 20 due to date ink stamp on back, otherwise EX), Tinker - bat off (Fr), Tinker - knees (Fr), Tinker - port. (Fr), Waddell - port. (Vg), Wallace (trimmed along top), Wheat (Fr), Willis - port. (Fr), Willis - bat (trimmed along left edge, Old Mill back), and Willis - throwing (Fr). As noted above, most of the cards graded Fair above have been downgraded from Ex due to a period rubber ink stamp date on the reverse, and are far superior to the grade suggested. Since the few cards with ink stamp dates on the reverse that were submitted to SGC were graded this way, we have treated the cards not submitted similarly for consistency, but we personally grade all of these ink-stamped cards higher. We are confident that the conditions of the cards as seen in images will speak for themselves. This is a great-looking group! Date stamps on the reverse are commonly seen and and to many are actually desirable, especially when they are period stamps, as is the case here (all are "1911" dates). This is a very impressive collection comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers and key cards, and with most cards having a far superior appearance to their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value of just the eleven SGC-graded cards (not including the one "Authentic" of Griffith and not including the additional thirty-one Hall of Famer and key cards not encapsulated) is $3,405. Total: 43 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+.
