1909-1911 T206 and T205 Tobacco Card-Collection Including Ty Cobb Green (76)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,644

Collection of seventy-six 1910-era tobacco cards consisting of fifty-one T206 White Borders, nineteen T205 Gold Borders, and six T207 Brown Backgrounds. Included are ten Hall of Famers (among them Cobb, green background and Mathewson), one Black Sox member, two T206 southern leaguers, and one T205 minor leaguer. The Cobb card is graded by SGC (submitted by REA). 1) T206 White Borders (51 cards): Condition ranges from Poor to Gd (averaging Fair), including Baker, Brown (Chicago), Chase (white cap), Cicotte (Black Sox), Cobb (green, SGC GOOD 30), Dahlen (Brooklyn), G. Davis, Greminger (southern leaguer, Old Mill back), Huggins (hands at mouth), Mathewson (dark cap), Miller (Dallas, southern leaguer), Tinker (hands on knees), and Waddell (portrait). The backs are almost all Piedmont but also included are a couple Sweet Caporal and Old Mill. 2) T205 Gold Borders (19 cards): Grade Pr-Fr, including Bender, Brown, Crandall ("t" not crossed), Lee (minor leaguer), and Stahl. 3) T207 Brown Backgrounds (6 cards): Knetzer, Livingston (big "C"), Oakes, Rucker, Spratt, and Wilson. All grade Pr (except one Gd). Tobacco cards in low-grade condition represent perhaps the best value among all vintage baseball cards. These cards are in modest condition and are relatively affordable (compared to what these cards would sell for in higher grade) yet most definitely capture the spirit of vintage-card collecting! This is an original-owner collection of tobacco cards (saved by the grandfather of our consignor) from three of the 1910 era's most popular and classic sets, highlighted by a very pleasing T206 example of Ty Cobb with a green background (SGC GOOD 30). The equivalent SMR value for just the T206 Cobb is $1,000. Total: 76 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
