1910 PC796 Sepia Ty Cobb Postcard

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Extraordinary high-grade example of one of Ty Cobb's most striking and attractive cards, from the very rare and highly regarded PC796 sepia postcard set, issued in 1910. This card is one of the highlights from a collection of nine PC796 postcards that have just recently been discovered by a noncollecting family, and are being offered as seven different lots in this auction. It is interesting to note that the image of Cobb used on this card is the same image used on the PC805 Novelty Cutlery postcard series. This has always been one of our favorite Ty Cobb cards. This example has never been mailed and has no writing on the postcard reverse. There is just a hint of corner wear and the faintest hint of an impression from storage in an old-fashioned style photo album (the type in which cards are "tipped in") in the lower right and left corners (barely visible and even then mostly from the reverse). Cobb's striking image is centered slightly towards the top right. This is a stunning example of one of the most visually impressive and rarest of all Ty Cobb cards from the 1910 era. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
