1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Bid McPhee
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,231
Extremely rare N173 Old Judge cabinet of Hall of Famer Bid McPhee (#317-1 pose) dating from his playing days as a second baseman with the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This card clearly has some condition problems but is an incredible rarity. In fact, this is the first N173 McPhee we have ever seen. McPhee is a particularly desirable Hall of Famer even in the smaller N172 Old Judge set due to rarity (McPhee is among the most difficult to find of all Hall of Famers), but an N173 Old Judge cabinet of McPhee, while checklisted and therefore previously known to exist, is virtually unheard of. This card has moisture stains along the bottom of the mount and in the top right of the photograph, and also some serious surface wear that unfortunately affects McPhee's face. The blank reverse reveals evidence of soiling and also some moisture staining. It is in low-grade, but is such a monumental and significant N173 Hall of Famer rarity that it would be worthy of consideration for inclusion in even the most advanced nineteenth-century, Hall of Famer, or N173 Old Judge cabinet collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,231
