1950 Bowman "Wild Man" PSA-Graded Collection (40 of 72)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350

1950 Bowman "Wild Man" collection of 40 cards of the 72 in the set, each graded and encapsulated by PSA. The "Wild Man" set was issued in two separate series (#1-37 and #38-72). This extraordinary high-grade collection represents over 55% of a complete set, consisting of twenty-seven low-number and thirteen high-number series cards. "Wild Man" is one of the most interesting nonsport issues of the era. The set portrays man's violent past with magnificent color artwork and graphic text. This is a set with a message. As stated on each card, "MAN'S PAST is stained with BLOOD. His FUTURE can be bright with promise - If in the present he will wage PEACE." The timing of this set, issued just five years after the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, allows for a greater understanding of this message, and its warnings for the future. The PSA grades are as follows: Nine NM-MT 8: #17, 20 (OC), 21, 24, 25, 29, 32 (OC), 33, and 50. Two NM+ 7.5: #13 and 26. Twenty NM 7: #4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 15, 19, 22, 23, 27, 28, 30, 31, 35, 47, 48, 52, 54, 59, and 70. Nine EX-MT 6: #3, 5, 36, 38, 42, 55, 62, 69, and 72 (last card in set). Every card in this set has flawless colors, sharp corners, and superb eye-appeal. This is an outstanding collection of one of the era's most significant sets and one of the great classic of all nonsport-card issues. The total SMR value for the individual cards (not including the two qualified cards) is $2,170 (there is no SMR value for the NM+ 7.5 grade, so the two examples graded at this level were calculated using the NM 7 value). Total: 40 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,350
