1888 N105 Duke "Cowboy Scenes" Complete Set (25)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,763

This very attractive complete set of twenty-five "Cowboy Scenes" cards features some of the finest artwork to ever appear on any tobacco series. The set presents a wide variety of scenes relating to the Old West. It's hard to believe that when this set was issued, the "Old West" really wasn't so old, and many of the scenes were representative of the lives and challenges of real cowboys of the day. The cards were distributed with Duke’s Honest Long Cut brand tobacco. Sixteen cards range from Ex to Ex-Mt (includes a couple Nr/Mt), two cards are Vg-Ex, and seven are slightly lesser (of which five have pencil writing on the back). This is a gorgeous set with overall very clean fronts and backs, and with outstanding eye-appeal. Duke's "Cowboy Scenes" is one of the most popular nonsports sets of the era, and is highly prized by Old West collectors and nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors alike. Dimensions: 2.5 x 4 inches. Total 25 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,763
