1931 W. A. A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" (Large) Complete Set (12): #1 PSA Set Registry!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,225

Stunning ultra high-grade complete twelve-card set of 1931 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" large-variety cards, highlighted by Hall of Famer Bobby Jones. Each card features a caricature of a professional golfer with a detailed background, and the golfer's name along the bottom. Inscribed as "A Series of 12" on the reverse, this large-card variety of "Prominent Golfers" is extremely rare and compliments its smaller-format 50-card version of the same year. Most advanced collectors would agree that this larger-card variety is about 25 times as rare as the scarce smaller version. This is currently the number-one All-Time Finest set in the world on the PSA Registry! Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes three PSA MINT 9s (including Jones), one NM-MT+ 8.5s, and eight PSA NM-MT 8s. The PSA registry overall weighted GPA rating is 8.46. This is an extraordinary set which has been assembled by an extremely dedicated and condition-conscious collector over a period of many years, with the express purpose of assembling the best set in the world. The PSA grades are as follows: Three MINT 9: #5 Jones (one of only three with none graded higher), 8 , and 9 Vardon. One NM-MT+ 8.5: #10 J. Wethered. Eight NM-MT 8: #1, 2, 3 Cotton, 4 Hagen, 6, 7, 11, and 12. Eleven of these cards are the highest-ever PSA-graded examples. Compared to vintage baseball cards, golf cards are beginning to be recognized as offering an outstanding value. This is an extraordinary high-grade complete set of one of the premier golf sets of the era. The SMR value for the individual cards is $16,300 (there is no SMR value for the NM-MT+ 8.5 grade, so the one example graded at this level was calculated using the NM-MT 8 value). Total: 12 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $8,225
