1923 Cope Bros. Co. "Golf Strokes" PSA-Graded Complete Set (32)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,763

Complete set of thirty-two 1923 Cope Bros. & Co. "Golf Strokes" cards, all graded and encapsulated by PSA. This set is considered by many serious golf-card collectors as one of the most difficult sets to complete in high grade. This is an outstanding set, rarely offered in complete-set form at all, let alone in such high grade. Only five different golfers comprise the thirty-two card set. The set features multiple cards of golf legends Harry Vardon, Abe Mitchell, George Duncan, John H. Taylor, and Edward Ray. Each card depicts a black-and-white action shot with a descriptive narrative on the reverse. The set includes five NM-MT 8s, twelve NM 7s, nine EX-MT 6s, two EX 5s, two VG-EX+ 4.5s, one VG-EX 4, and one VG 3. The PSA grades are as follows: Five NM-MT 8: #6 Vardon, 13 (OC), 14 (OC), 18, and 19 Duncan. Twelve NM 7: #9 Vardon, 10, 11, 16, 17, 21, 22 Taylor, 23 Taylor, 24 Taylor, 26 Taylor, 27 Taylor, and 30. Nine EX-MT 6: #2 Vardon, 3 Vardon, 5 Vardon, 7 Vardon, 8 Vardon, 25 Taylor, 28 Taylor, 29, and 31. Two EX 5: #15 and 32 (last card in the set). Two VG-EX+ 4.5: # 4 Vardon and 12. One VG-EX 4: #20. One VG 3: #1 Vardon. Many of these cards are the highest (6 cards) or second-highest (5 cards) graded examples in the PSA Population Report. This is a very scarce set in extremely high grade, and is rarely seen or offered at auction. The total SMR value for twenty-six of the thirty-two PSA-graded cards (not including the two qualified cards, and the four cards graded lower than EX 5) is $3,995. Total: 32 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,763
