1979 O-Pee-Chee Hockey #18 Wayne Gretzky Rookie - GAI Perfect 10
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $4,994
Graded Perfect 10 by GAI. Exceptionally crisp super high-grade rookie card of Wayne Gretzky, universally recognized as the greatest hockey player ever. This card is the "1952 Topps Mickey Mantle" of hockey cards. The Gretzky rookie will always be one of the few most important of all hockey cards, especially prized in extremely high grade. This is an extraordinary high-grade example of the premier modern-day hockey card. The 1979 O-Pee-Chee hockey issue is extremely condition-sensitive due to its blue flush-to-the-border design. The offered example is pack-fresh with four razor-sharp corners, perfectly centered, bright colors, a flawless image, and without the slightest hint of chipping to the blue borders, just a hint of a rough cut along the left border. A spectacular world-class example of this most sought-after modern hockey-card classic. Out of 2,426 examples of this card graded to date by PSA, only one has ever graded PSA 10. There is no SMR value for a PSA GEM MINT 10 of this card. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only GAI example graded "Perfect 10." Our consignor paid $12,000 for this card at auction several years ago (in 2007). Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,994
