1954-1955 Topps Hockey Partial Set (47 of 60)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,293

Partial set of the landmark 1954-1955 Topps Hockey series (47 of the 60 cards in the set), the first hockey set issued by Topps. Missing thirteen cards for completion. (The missing cards are #3 Howell, 11 Bathgate, 15, 22, 24, 30, 43, 45, 46, 48, 50, 51 Lindsay , and 54.) This important set features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. This is a very attractive partial set of 1954-1955 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. Keys: #1 Gamble (Vg-Ex), 5 Kelly (Ex), 8 Howe (Vg-Ex), 10 Worsley (EX-Mt), 18 Mohns RC (Ex-Mt), 20 Gadsby (Ex), 39 Delvecchio (Vg), 41 Stanley (Ex-Mt), 49 Quackenbush (Ex), 58 Sawchuk (Vg), and 60 Schmidt (last card in set, Vg). The balance of the cards grade as follows: 80% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), 20% slightly lesser. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-quality sets all the more difficult. An exceptionally attractive mid-grade near set, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. This collection represents a very substantial start towards a complete set of one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues. Total: 47 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
