1935 R331 National Chicle Football #4 Ed Matesic - PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,293

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Only one example (a qualified Mint 9 [OC]) ever graded higher by PSA. Extraordinary high-grade 1935 R331 National Chicle bubble-gum card of #4 Ed Matesic, Philadelphia Eagles half-back. Matesic has always been singled out as one of the most striking cards in the 1935 National Chicle Football set, which is so highly regarded for its beautiful art deco-inspired designs. In addition to being one of the few horizontal cards in the series, the detail of the artwork, especially the background, is far more elaborate than most, if not all, other cards in the set. The card has vibrant colors with four sharp corners, and is very well centered, just a hint to the top right. The reverse is perfectly clean with bold blue print. This is a stunning high-grade example of this classic 1930s bubble-gum football card, worthy of the world's finest R331 National Chicle collection or set. We think the SMR value of $650 is extremely conservative. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,293
