1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Collection (29)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Collection of twenty-three different (plus six duplicates, for a total of twenty-nine cards) 1909 T204 Ramlys, ranging in condition from Poor to Very Good (averaging Gd-Vg overall), highlighted by Hall of Famer Bobby Wallace. These cards are part of a recently discovered original-owner collection of forty-nine Ramlys. (The twenty cards from the collection not included in this lot are offered separately in this auction.) One of the most elegantly designed card issues ever produced, T204 Ramlys are noted for the distinctive fancy gold-embossed borders that surround the oval photographic portraits. They are much rarer than most other tobacco-card issues from the 1910 era. The collection is comprised of the following: Seven Gd-Vg to Vg: Burchell, Coakley, Ganley, Karger, McConnell, Powell, and Wagner. Nine Good (all downgraded for a stain in the top left corner, otherwise Vg to Ex): Alperman, Clymer, Dineen (Dinneen), Howell, Morgan, O'Hare, O’Leary, Rucker, and Street. Thirteen Poor (all downgraded for a tiny pinhole at the top): Bransfield, Burchell, Dineen (Dinneen), Fromme, two Hemphill, two Howell, McIntyre, Moran (blank back, peeled off), Stahl, two Wallace (HOF). This is a very substantial collection of one of card collecting's most classic issues. The twenty-three different T204 Ramlys in the collection represent 19% of the set, and could serve as an ideal foundation for the building of a mid-grade complete set of this classic tobacco-card issue. This is a very attractive group of these extremely rare and desirable tobacco cards, spanning many grades, and including Hall of Famer Bobby Wallace. Total: 29 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $3,231
