1973 All-Star Game Ring and Signed Glove (38 Signatures with Many Hall of Famers)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,175

Each of the two items offered here, a 1973 All-Star Game ring and a glove signed by thirty-eight different players, nearly all of whom were participants in the 1973 All-Star Game, comes with the special provenance of having been obtained directly by our consignor at a special banquet held the night before the game. In his accompanying one-page letter he explains how he came to possess each piece. In full: "To whom it may concern, In 1973 my father Dick Watt was the Plant Manager of the Linde Stars, a Division of Union Carbide, the supplier of All-Star rings to the baseball players. I was nine years old at the time and got to attend the game in Kansas City as well as the banquet in which the players received their rings. I was able to meet many of the 1973 All-Stars and get signatures on the glove, plus signatures from some famous MLB alumni that were at the Banquet (such as Stan Musial). I also got to keep a Linde Star All-Star ring, which I assume was an extra ring. I have had the glove and ring in my possession since 1973." 1) 1973 All-Star Game ring. The gold-colored ring features a green stone in the center. The left shank bears the engraved lettering, "All Star 1973," while the opposite side displays a baseball logo, with the word "Baseball" engraved below. The Linde Stars company logo is engraved on the interior band, as are the letters "NK" (meaning unknown). Approximate size: 10. Nr-Mt. Housed in its original case. 2) Rawlings "Mark Belanger" signature-model "GJF 8" left-handed fielder's glove, signed on both the front and reverse by thirty-eight different players. As noted in the consignor's letter, this glove includes a few former stars, as well as many of the participants in the 1973 All-Star Game. Included among the signatures are those of Stan Musial, Pee Wee Reese, Monte Irvin, Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, Carlton Fisk, Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, Sparky Anderson, Joe Morgan, Don Sutton, Bowie Kuhn, Pete Rose, Sal Bando, Buddy Bell, Paul Blair, Pat Kelly, Dave May, Bobby Murcer, Dave Nelson, Cookie Rojas, Jim Spencer, Bobby Bonds, Jim Brewer, Nate Colbert, Cesar Cedeno, Darrell Evans, Ron Fairly, Dave Giusti, Bill Russell, Ron Santo, Bob Watson, and Rick Wise. Signatures range from "4" to "9," averaging "6." The glove displays little-to-no use and is in Excellent to Mint condition. Total: 2 items (ring and glove). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,175
