Circa 1957 Mickey Mantle Kohner Action Game

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705

Original game and retail box for the Mickey Mantle Action Game produced by Kohner Bros., New York. The red box features a photo of Mantle in uniform as he strikes a left-handed batting pose. Two of the side panels picture the game, while the underside lists the playing rules. The game itself, which is of plastic and cardboard construction, is comprised of a three-inch tall mechanical batting figure that hits a tethered baseball into one of nine compartments that determines the action (home run, out, triple, double, etc.). The underside of the cardboard game base displays a smaller portrait image of Mantle, as well as instructions and playing rules. The game (approximately 6 x 4 x 3.5 inches) displays moderate wear and is in Excellent condition overall. The box bears the number "98" written in blue ink on Mantle's image. Moderate handling wear is evident throughout, including a few tears to each end flap. One of the interior flaps is completely torn off, but present. In Very Good condition overall. A 1957 trade ad exists for this game, which had a $1.00 retail price. The game itself is scarce but the original box (6.25 x 4.25 x 3.25 inches) featuring Mantle's image is extremely rare. This is the first example we have ever seen. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
