1912 T207 Brown Background Ward Miller (Chicago)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,233

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive example of the rare Ward Miller (Chicago) card from the T207 set. This card is one of the many highlights from one of vintage-card collecting's most exciting recent discoveries: The Louisiana Find of 2010 (comprised of just ninety-four cards, all rarities, including eight T207 Red Cross back cards). Remarkably, this is one of four rare T207 Miller (Chicago) examples (and it is the highest graded of the four) from The Louisiana Find, each of which is presented as a separate lot in this auction. Ward Miller (Chicago) is among the rarest cards in the entire set. While the Lowdermilk is the most famous of all the rarities in the T207 set, because it was originally listed in the American Card Catalog as the only rare card in the set, many advanced collectors consider Miller, Chicago, just as rare. The card is bright, crisp, and clean, with a perfect image, even wear on the corners (a little more in the lower left), and centered slightly to the left (approximately 30/70 L/R with a slight diamond cut). There is no cigarette company advertisement on the reverse ("Anonymous"). While collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the T207 set, Miller (Chicago) will always be recognized as one of the key rarities of the set. The highest graded of the four newly discovered examples of this key T207 rarity from The Louisiana Find. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,233
