1934 Tour of Japan Team-Signed Ball with Ruth and Gehrig

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,463

In 1934 Connie Mack led a group of Major League players on a highly publicized postseason goodwill Tour of Japan. That much-celebrated tour is especially noteworthy as it was the only overseas tour in which both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig participated. Offered is an outstanding Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue fountain pen by eleven members of that famous 1934 overseas tour. Babe Ruth's signature (grading "6") appears on a side panel with that of Connie Mack ("5/6"). The remaining signatures are those of Lou Gehrig ("8"), Lefty Gomez ("6/7"), Jimmie Foxx (sweet spot, "6"), Joe Cascarella (last name only, "6"), Earl Whitehill (on ball label, "5/6"), Bing Miller ("6"), Rabbit Warstler ("6"), Eric McNair ("6"), and one other (illegible). The ball displays light-to-moderate soiling and the manufacturer's stampings are mostly faded. In Very Good condition overall. This is a very attractive example of one of the great classics among all signed baseballs and one of the most desirable of all Ruth/Gehrig signed items. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $6,463
