Babe Ruth Cut Signature in Framed Display

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350

The signature of Babe Ruth, executed in black fountain pen, is the centerpiece of this unique framed display. Ruth has prefaced his signature, which grades "9," with the salutation "Sincerely." The offered signature was originally obtained on a standard piece of white paper to which someone then affixed a magazine clipping picturing Ruth's portrait photo and a brief biography. In turn, the sheet was than taped to an index card. Later, the signature and magazine clipping were separated so that this unique display could be created. Now, the Ruth signature is presented within a large-scale mock up of an Upper Deck Babe Ruth "Legendary Lumber" signature card, numbered "3/3." (The original "Legendary Lumber" Upper Deck card also featured a piece of wood from a Ruth game-used bat, along with a signature cut. This is NOT an original "Legendary Lumber" Upper Deck card; it is a mock up created to look like one for display purposes only. As intended, it displays beautifully.) Mounted below the Ruth signature is the vintage magazine biography of Ruth that was originally affixed to the signature sheet. The Ruth cut-signature (3.75 x 1.25 inches) displays clear tape along the left border and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Framed to total dimensions of 17 x 18.25 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,350
