Two Topps 50th Anniversary Presentation Sets in Their Original Wood Presentation Cases

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $1,410

Two rare Topps 50th Anniversary card presentation sets, each housed in its original wood presentation case bearing the Topps Anniversary logo on the top, issued in 2001. Each presentation set contains fifty cards, still sealed in the original gold cardboard box. Each card set consists of fifty original Topps baseball cards spanning the years 1951 through 2001, one random, original card from each of Topps' standard sets issued during the company's first fifty years. We are not certain of the original distribution method of these special boxed sample-card sets. They may have been a special premium, or sold in exactly this manner, or given as special keepsakes to longtime Topps executives. However they were distributed, it is clear that they were prepared by Topps as a very special item in honor of Topps' 50th anniversary of issuing baseball cards. One thing that is known for certain: however they were distributed, it appears these special boxed sets are rare today. These two examples originate from Sy Berger's personal collection and we can't imagine anyone who was more worthy to receive them than the "Father of the Bubble Gum Card." The cards inside are in an unknown presumably circulated condition. Both the gold card boxes and wood presentation cases (6.5 x 5 x 3 inches) remain in Mint condition. From the Sy Berger Collection. Reserve $100. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,410
