1975 Topps Advertising Poster

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $294

This small retail advertising poster, issued by Topps in 1975, embraces the spirit of card collecting. The poignant image captures three small boys engaged in a time-honored tradition: flipping trade cards. Pictured in the foreground are illustrations of the 1975 Topps cards for Lou Piniella, Joe Torre, and Hank Aaron. This piece, which is printed on paper stock, was most likely issued only to Topps retailers for in-store display. It is obviously very rare though we do recall seeing one other example many years ago. The poster (8.5 x 8.75 inches) has been affixed to a white mount (probably by means of adhesive on the reverse), which in turn has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 14.25 x 14.25 inches. In Excellent condition. This is an extremely attractive advertising poster, not necessarily the most valuable piece in the auction but a great-looking poster that is worthy of inclusion in any Topps or baseball card advertising collection, and all the more significant in that it originates directly from the Sy Berger Collection where it was saved and proudly displayed as a decorative piece for decades. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $294
