1952, 1953 & 1954 Topps Archives Set Collection (15 Sets)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,410

Since 1983, Topps has produced several different reprint sets of its classic early 1950s baseball card sets. All were ideas conceived by the legendary Sy Berger, so it is only natural that a few samples of these exciting Topps-issued sets that celebrate the rich history of Topps would find their way into Sy's basement. The traditional 1952 baseball card set was the first of these very high quality "reprint" sets. At the time of issue, the 1952 commemorative set was available only as a complete boxed set with a retail price of about $40. Topps introduced its "1953 Archives" set in 1991, and the "1954 Archives" in 1994. These sets are very popular with collectors, because they are official Topps issues, they provide a relatively inexpensive alternative for card collectors to enjoy the classic Topps issues from the early 1950s, and because their slightly smaller size and style of manufacture is different from the originals, they cannot be confused with originals. Offered is a collection of Topps archive sets and unopened boxes: 1) Six complete 1952 sets: all are in the original issue box, two boxes are unopened (Nr/Mt and Vg-Ex), the other four have the original seals broken with Mint cards inside. 2) Seven complete 1953 sets: all Mint condition. 3) Two complete 1954 sets: two gold foil sets, both Mint. This "Archive" collection is loaded with Hall of Famers and stars, including Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Warren Spahn, and many more. These are a great value and it is easy to see why collectors enjoy these sets so much. Total 15 sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,410
