1954 Bowman Complete Set Including #66 Ted Williams (225 cards plus two variations)

Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $3,819

75% Ex to Ex-Mt (includes a few Nr/Mt), 20% ranging from Vg to Vg-Ex/Ex (includes a few slightly lesser), and 5% with slight trim. This is a very attractive medium- to high-grade complete set (including #66 Williams) of one of the most overlooked (and compared to many other sets, most reasonably valued) classic bubblegum-card issues from the golden age of the 1950s. The #66 Ted Williams is the key card to the 1954 Bowman set and one of the legendary keys among all postwar gum cards. The #66 Piersall is also included plus two variations (#33b Raschi and 163B Philley). Two cards, #65 Mickey Mantle and 66 Ted Williams, have been graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. In addition, we have selected an additional four key cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #1 Rizzuto (PSA EX 5), 6 Fox (Nr/Mt), 15 Ashburn (80/20 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 45 Kiner (Nr/Mt), 58 Reese (20/80 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 62 Slaughter (Ex), 64 Mathews (Ex-Mt), 65 Mantle (PSA EX-MT 6), 66a Williams (PSA EX-MT 6), 66b Piersall (Ex-Mt), 89 Mays (PSA VG-EX 4), 90 Campanella (PSA EX-MT 6), 95 Roberts (Ex), 132 Feller (PSA EX-MT 6), 138 Hodges (Ex-Mt), 145 Martin (Ex), 161 Berra (Ex-Mt), 164 Wynn (Ex-Mt), 170 Snider (30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 177 Ford (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), and 196 Lemon (Nr/Mt). This is a crisp, clean, and extremely attractive high-grade complete set of this classic and often overlooked Bowman issue. The #66 Ted Williams, which has always been one of the most valuable cards of the era, lists for $1,525 in EX-MT 6 in the SMR. Total 227 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $3,819
