1951 Topps Blue and Red Backs Complete Set Collection (2 Sets, 105 Cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115

The 1951 Red and Blue Back sets are extremely significant as these were the first major baseball card sets ever issued by Topps. Offered as a single lot are complete sets of both the 1951 Topps Red Backs and 1951 Topps Blue Backs, each with 52 cards plus one Red Back variation, for a total of 105 cards. We have selected thirteen cards to be graded by PSA. 1) 1951 Topps Red Back (53): Ten cards range from Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (with a couple of Mint cards), thirty-one cards range from Ex to Ex-Mt, ten cards are Vg, and two are slightly lesser. Keys: #1 Berra (NM-MT 8), 5 Rizzuto (EX+ 5.5), 6 Reynolds (Ex), 8 Wynn (NM-MT 8), 15 Kiner (MINT 9), 16 Roe (Ex-Mt), 20 DiMaggio (Ex), 22 Feller (EX 5), 24 Bauer (Ex-Mt), 30 Spahn (Ex-Mt), 31 Hodges (NM 7), 34 Hatton (NM 7), 38 Snider (Ex), 39 Kluszewski (Vg), 48 Stanky (MINT 9), 50 Irvin (Ex), 52A Holmes/Hart. (Vg). 2) 1951 Topps Blue Back (52): Five cards range from Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (with a couple of Mint cards), thirty-six cards range from Ex to Ex-Mt, six cards are Vg, and five are lesser. Keys: #1 Yost (Vg), 3 Ashburn (MINT 9), 6 Schoendienst (EX 5), 9 Sain (Ex), 10 Page (Ex), 20 Branca (Ex), 30 Slaughter (NM-MT 8), 37 Doerr (EX-MT 6), 39 Lopat (Ex-Mt), 45 Pierce (Ex), 50 Mize (NM-MT 8), 52 Chapman (Vg). The 1951 Red and Blue Back Topps sets are among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represent an extraordinary value. The SMR value for just the thirteen PSA-graded cards (not including the 92 additional cards from the sets) is $1,978. Total 105 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115
