1933 R319 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth - SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $8,225

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Extraordinary high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most popular cards, #181 Ruth with green background from the 1933 Goudey series. This card was one of the highlights of a large, totally untouched collection of 1933 and 1934 Goudey gum cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This card, which was no doubt once housed in one of the 162 1933 Goudey wrappers that were saved with the collection (and are offered as their own lot), looks like it was just pulled from a pack! This card is gorgeous! The card has four razor-sharp corners, perfect printing registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this card), flawless colors, white borders, and just an insignificant print mark in the green background to the right of Ruth's image. It is centered a hint towards the bottom border. It is perfectly crisp and clean, both front and back, with a extremely bold, flawlessly printed reverse. This is a magnificent high-grade example of one Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards, which has practically traveled direct from a pack in the 1930s to this auction. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $6,500. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,225
