Lot # 519 (of 1727)   < Previous Lot | Next Lot >

1933 R319 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,998

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive medium-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most striking cards, #181 with green background from the 1933 Goudey series. This card was one of the highlights of a large, totally untouched collection of 1933 and 1934 Goudey gum cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This is a crease-free example, with even wear on the corners, and a tiny stain on Ruth's sleeve that is most likely responsible for this card not receiving a higher grade. Well centered slightly to the left. The back is clean with bold green print set against an off-white background. This is a very attractive strong mid-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,998
