1933 R338 Sport Kings Partial Set Including Ty Cobb (26 of 48)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,700

Collection of twenty-six of the forty-eight cards which comprise this classic multisport 1930s prewar gum issue, highlighted by Ty Cobb, one of the key cards to this popular series. These cards are part of an exciting original "childhood" collection consigned to this auction. These cards were assembled in 1933, and have remained literally untouched since the 1930s, saved by the family of the original owner. This sharp-looking group represents 54% of the set, a great start toward the assembly of a mid- to high-grade complete set of these popular classics. We have selected eleven cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. Condition composite: One Nr/Mt-Mt: #8 Hagen (NM-MT 8 [OC]). One Nr/Mt: #13. Twelve Ex-Mt: #10 (EX-MT 6), 11 (EX-MT 6), 15 (EX-MT 6), 20 Kahanamoku (EX-MT 6), 21 Weissmuller, 23, 24 Morenz (EX-MT 6), 26, 27 Turner, 31, 34, and 42 Hubbell (EX-MT 6). Three Ex: #3 Holman (EX 5), 36 Hoppe (EX 5), and 39 (EX 5). Four Vg-Ex: #33 Burke, 40, 46, and 48 Seppala. Two Gd: #1 Cobb (GOOD 2, strong Vg card downgraded due to glue residue on the front) and 43 Carnera. Three Pr: #29 Bailey, 32 Lopchick, and 45 Didrickson. This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade partial set of one of the 1930s most popular issues. The SMR value for the ten graded cards (not including the one qualified card and fifteen ungraded cards) is $2,270. Total 26 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
