1909-1911 T206 White Borders Collection (250)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,288

Collection of 250 assorted T206 White Borders (mostly different), highlighted by twelve Hall of Famers including Cy Young and two Christy Mathewsons. Forty-two cards range from Gd-Vg to Vg including Bender (trees), Brown (Chicago), Chance (red), Griffith (portrait), Huggins (portrait), Westlake (southern leaguer), Young (portrait); 122 range from Fr to Gd including Bender (trees), Duffy, Marquard (hands at sides); eighty-six grade Pr-Fr including Chase (dark cap), Marquard (hands at sides), Mathewson (dark cap), Mathewson (white cap). Even though these cards are in varying grades, this is a great-looking group! This lot is ideal for the collector who wants real, original circa 1910 tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. For many collectors, circulated tobacco cards such as these are what collecting is all about. Even in low grade, T206s never fail to inspire awe in true collectors, and when it comes to selling, there is always a ready market. We enjoy offering low-grade groups like these because they make the collecting of the most classic baseball-card issues possible and more accessible to a wider audience. This is a particularly substantial group, including, as noted, many Hall of Famers. Backs are almost all Sweet Caporal and Piedmont, but also included are samples of several other brands (Sovereign, Tolstoi, Polar Bear, Old Mill). Total 250 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
