1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $26,438

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Presented is an outstanding high-grade example of one of Ty Cobb's rarest and most stunning cards, and one of the key Hall of Famers in the six-card 1911 M110 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. This auction includes the complete M110 set, assembled and presented by the same consignor, with each card offered individually. This magnificent example features a beautiful full-color pastel artwork of Ty Cobb in a classic batting stance on the front and an advertisement for Sporting Life on the reverse. The M110 set is similar in design to, but far rarer than, the contemporary T3 Turkey Red cabinets. In fact, while hundreds of T3 Cobbs exist (and that card is universally recognized as one of the great classic Cobb cards), probably fewer than twenty (maybe fewer than a dozen) M110 Cobbs are known to exist. Its extreme rarity, and that of the entire M110 set, gives this interesting card great value compared to other Cobb cards of the era. The beauty of this card combined with its incredible rarity explains why the M110 Cobb is considered one of the all-time great classic cards of the entire era. The card has an Excellent to Mint appearance and has been harshly graded VG/EX by SGC due to a barely detectable wrinkle at the edge of the border in the lower right corner (extremely insignificant) and the hint of shading on the right and lower borders, which is a characteristic of the M110 set. This is a very strong card that is otherwise in virtually flawless condition. Bright, fresh, and impeccably clean, both front and back, with bold blue text on the reverse. We grade this card Excellent. This is an outstanding example of one of the rarest and most beautiful of all Ty Cobb cards in simply spectacular condition. Dimensions: 5-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+.
