1910 T210 Old Mill Tobacco Casey Stengel - PSA EX-MT 6 - Highest Graded! (1 : 1)

Starting Bid - $10,000, Sold For - $23,500

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Highest-graded example to date by PSA or SGC! In fact, the next highest PSA grade is a VG-EX 4 and the highest SGC grade is a EX 60. Magnificent example of key T210 Red Border Casey Stengel, featured as an outfielder with Maysville of the Blue Grass League, at the very beginning of his career. This is one of card collecting's most interesting, noteworthy, and rare tobacco cards. Although not quite as uncommon as Joe Jackson (from Series 8) in the T210 Old Mill set, the Stengel (from Series 6) is still far rarer than a T206 Wagner, with only approximately fifteen examples known. Together Jackson and Stengel are the two most famous cards from this series and two of the rarest and most highly prized of all 1910-era tobacco cards. The offered example is an extremely attractive card, the highest-graded T210 Stengel known, and in particularly high grade for this issue. It is rare to find even a common player in such high grade. T210 Old Mill cards (which with their bright red borders are so susceptible to corner and edge wear) are rarely found in EX-MT condition. In fact, only fifteen T210 Old Mill cards in total of all players have ever been graded EX-MT 6 by PSA, and only one (a Series 1 common player) has ever graded higher at NM 7. This is a stunning card! Bright and clean, with just the slightest hint of white showing on the two bottom corners, virtually no chipping to the fragile red borders (one tiny spot of white on the top edge), and centered to the top right (approximately 75/25 LR and 25/75 T/B). The reverse has very light wear along the right edge, of no consequence, and is otherwise perfectly bright and clean, with strong, crisp printing of the advertisement for Old Mill Cigarettes. Difficult to value due to its extreme rarity, this is the highest-graded example of what is without question, along with Joe Jackson, one of the two key cards in the T210 set, and one of the premier Hall of Fame rarities in all of 1910-era tobacco-card collecting. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $23,500
