1893 N256 Lorillard "Ancient Mythology Burlesqued” Complete Set (25) Plus Two Variations

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705

Exceptionally rare complete set of twenty-five 1893 N256 Lorillard "Ancient Mythology Burlesqued” cards, plus two additional variations (card #2 and 16) for a total of 27 cards. This is a particularly rare nineteenth-century issue. Even sample cards are rare. A complete set is virtually unheard of. (We have never before seen or offered a complete set.) Condition ranges from Vg to Ex (includes a few cards slightly lesser, but all still Good or better, and all very attractive cards). This is one of those unusual nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card sets that one is lucky to find even a few examples represented in a big collection. This issue stands out, both for its design and its rarity, to even the most seasoned veteran collector. Each card, measuring 1-3/4 x 3-3/8 inches, features a multicolored lithographic image of a woman with butterfly wings representing figures from "ancient mythology." One of the most distinctive and attractive tobacco-card sets of the nineteenth-century, this issue is highly prized by advanced nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total 27 cards (set of 25 plus two variations). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $705
