1933 R338 Sport Kings #16 William Tilden PSA NM-MT+ 8.5

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. One of just three examples graded at this level by PSA, with only one graded higher. Striking high-grade example of one of William Tilden's most sought-after cards, from one of the most popular sets of the 1930s. This card was one of the highlights of a large totally untouched collection of 1930s gum cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. Bright and crisp, with four razor-sharp corners, vibrant colors, and a perfectly clean reverse. Tilden's image contrasts sharply against the bold blue background. The front of the card is centered just a hint toward the right and bottom borders (approximately 55/45); to our eye the card otherwise has a MINT appearance. Sport Kings are the most popular multisport set ever produced. This 1930s gum-card issue includes champions from many fields of sport including baseball, football, basketball, tennis, hockey, and even dogsledding. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of one of Tilden’s most classic cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
