1935 R331 National Chicle Football Complete Low-Number Set Including Knute Rockne (24 of 36)

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,463

Outstanding high-grade complete low-number set of 1935 R331 National Chicle Football includes 24 different of the 36 cards in the set, highlighted by Hall of Famer Knute Rockne (PSA EX-MT 6). Missing only the twelve high numbers (#25-36) for completion. This is an original "childhood" collection, assembled in 1935, completely untouched since the 1930s, and saved by the family of the original owner. We have selected fifteen cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. The PSA grades are as follows: Eight NM 7: #3, 5, 13, 14, 17, 21, 22 (OC), and 24 Hinkle RC (HOF). One EX-MT+ 6.5: #15. Four EX-MT 6: #6, 7 Strong RC (HOF), 9 Rockne (HOF), and 20. Two EX 5: #16 and 19. The balance of the cards grade as follows: two Ex (#2 and 10 Battles), two Vg (#11 Edwards and 12), one Gd (#1 Clark, glue residue on back), and four lesser (#4, 8, 18, and 23 Feathers). This is a very sharp-looking, overall very high-grade complete low-number set (#1-24) of this classic 1930s football issue, with many cards appearing far better than suggested by their very respectable, technically accurate PSA grades. The total SMR value for the fifteen PSA-graded cards (not including one qualified card and nine ungraded cards) is $6,290. Total 24 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000.
