1909-1923 Unusual Prewar Card Collection with Three Ty Cobbs (7)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,644

Very unusual assortment of seven items (five cards and two pennants), dating from 1909 to 1923, from four different highly regarded issues. Included are six Hall of Famers (of which three are Ty Cobb) and one star from some of the most desirable sets of the era. All five cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (the two pennants are not graded). 1) T206 White Border (2 cards): Ty Cobb/green background (SGC GOOD 30, flawless portrait image set against a striking green background, downgraded from a much higher grade due to 15/85 T/B centering and a small surface abrasion on the right border; crisp and clean, sharing most qualities of a much higher graded example); Christy Mathewson/white cap (SGC VG/EX 50, extremely attractive card, bright and crisp, with even wear on the corners, no creases). 2) 1910 E93 Standard Caramel: Johnny Evers (SGC Auth, deemed evidence of trimming along top border, otherwise Nr/Mt appearance). 3) 1916 BF2 Ferguson Bakery Felt Pennants (2 items): Ty Cobb (low-grade because background pieces of the attached photo have chipped away but Cobb's image is not affected, and the felt pennant itself is in great shape); Magee (Vg-Ex). 4) 1923 W572 Strip Card (2 cards): Ty Cobb (SGC Auth, not numerically graded because it is a handcut strip card, nothing wrong with this rare card, Vg-Ex) and Walter Johnson (SGC VG/EX 50, numerically graded apparently because the borders are particularly large). An interesting representation of quality samples from classic card issues from the 1909 to 1923 era including three Ty Cobbs. Total 7 items (five cards and two pennants). Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,644
